Gomes, Miguel (1964- )
On December 14, 2012, six teachers and twenty children under the age of seven perished at a Connecticut elementary school in one of the most terrifying mass shootings in the United States. None of the stories in this book focus on the tragic incident, although all its protagonists, in one way or another, end up affected by it, live flush with its dark implications or try to decipher their own destinies while assimilating the incomprehensible news. Eight stories about lost innocence in a reality lavish in unfulfilled desires, visible and invisible wounds, diasporas and loneliness. Hope, however, does not disappear completely: those who find it have first learned to dialogue with their inner world.
