Antología poética
Darío, Rubén
Benedetti, Mario
(ed.)
A good part of the best poetry in Spanish, written and published in the last twenty years, has a precedent in Rubén Darío, not forced but natural. The Canto a la Argentina can be mentioned as a draft of the Canto general. But there are other announcements. Almost all studies on Darío begin by affirming that modernism is dead, and from that affirmation they urgently deduce that Darío's poetry is equally dead. That is why it seems appropriate to point out that in Darío's production there are many poems (and not always written in recent years) that evade even the broadest definitions of modernism. Singularly, it is those leaks that seem to me most glaringly topical.
