Autismo
Portella, Maria J.
To understand autism, it is necessary to adopt a polyhedral vision that not only includes a description of the symptoms of the autism spectrum, but also contemplates the meaning from different perspectives. In this book, the medical and neuroscientific vision is combined with other considerations such as social, legal, labor or educational. Progressively, a more global concept of autism is drawn, until it is possible to describe how people on the spectrum live, perceive, feel and think, not without forgetting the "other characteristics" of autism that often do not appear in the diagnostic criteria: female autism, emotional dysregulation, anxiety, among others. Next, the impact of autism is explored from birth to old age in the different spheres of life, such as schooling, the workplace and family and interpersonal relationships. Finally, daily strategies and clues are proposed that help to better adapt to the environment, both for people on the spectrum and for other individuals, with the aim of achieving a more inclusive and respectful society.
