Premio Memorial Blas Infante 2022

Cataño García, Eva

The figure of Blas Infante and his fight for the conscience of the Andalusian people during the Second Republic are still a legacy that is still alive today. This work delves into the study of the image of the Father of the Andalusian Homeland and Andalusianism in the Spanish press of that period, with the aim of documenting and analyzing his thought and praxis. The value of the historical press as a source of knowledge is essential to understand the peculiarities of Blas Infante's thought in the Second Republic. The investigation is based on an intense newspaper search that has allowed us to document more than 700 articles, conferences, interviews and news about his political activity. In short, the Second Spanish Republic was a convulsive and complex period, and the figure of Blas Infante was active in those years, and the historical press is the tool that allows us to reconstruct the events experienced and the opinions felt at those key moments of the Andalusian history. The work of Catano-García, with its exhaustive and rigorous study, provides a complete and profound vision of the figure of Blas Infante and his fight for self-government and the identity of Andalusia.
