Buen ladrón
LXVIII Premio de Novela Ateneo Ciudad de Valladolid
Fernández Alonso, Christian
During the 1930s, the Land of Campos endures its everlasting Great Depression immersed in the plateau caciquismo, religious tradition and extreme poverty. In Villamuriel, Dimas, el Pajarero, lives in the care of his grandmother since his mother died giving birth and his father was imprisoned for political reasons. Leónides Sanjurjo, an antiquarian who deals in works of art of dubious authenticity and stolen religious treasures, turns to little Dimas from time to time to obtain some pieces. Already a teenager, he decides to welcome him under his tutelage and takes him to live in Madrid, where Dimas becomes an art dealer's apprentice. Good thief deals with a subject little treated in the contemporary Spanish novel: the looting of works of art. A mixture of an intriguing novel and a historical account, seasoned with a Cervantine sense of humour, Christian Fernández Alonso presents us with a novel as surprising as it is exciting.
