Cambio social en la España del siglo XXI

González Rodríguez, Juan Jesús (ed.)

This text, in which prominent sociologists from different Spanish universities have participated, begins with a retrospective journey of the vicissitudes of Spanish society from the crisis of the 1970s to the Great Recession, with its effects of worsening social inequality and a dynamic of political polarization and fragmentation. Throughout its chapters, it offers a diagnosis of fundamental questions such as the effects of the reproductive revolution, particularly demographic aging; the consolidation of the immigrant population, as well as its degree of socioeconomic integration; changes in the family institution and the reduction of occupational gender segregation; the evolution of social stratification in recent decades, with outstanding features such as the marked growth of the class of services and the emergence of the precariat; the situation of the welfare state and social mobility and, finally, the social bases of the "old" and the "new" politics, as well as the changes that have taken place in the media system in parallel to the changes registered in the political system.
