The present volume of the RAE Classical Library offers the brief but extraordinary poetic work of San Juan de la Cruz, headed by the Spiritual Song, accompanied by the "declaration" or commentary that the author himself wrote to clarify the dimension and meaning of his verses. The edition by María Jesús Mancho takes into account, for the fixation of the text, the complex manuscript tradition of the works of the saint, conceived for a restricted diffusion, and pays special attention to the codex of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, authenticated and revised by Saint John. The poems are accompanied by an overall study that makes visible the different dimensions (linguistic, classical, biblical, traditional, erotic, moral, mystical) contained in these prodigious compositions, and brings together and analyzes the scholarly flow of reflection -and discussion- that They have provoked.
