Cartas de Sylvia Plath, 2
1952-1954
Plath, Sylvia
It is the first time that the full letters of Sylvia Plath have been published in Spanish, in which the most memorable events and incidents of her life are narrated. In this volume, a series of key experiences of her are collected: she begins to publish some poems and wins a contest to be a guest editor at Mademoiselle magazine, in New York. That summer of 1953, Plath goes through a period of insomnia and exhaustion, suffering a depressive episode that will lead her to attempt suicide in the basement of her house. These events will inspire, years later, her great novel: The Bell Jar. We are witnessing here the transformation of one of the great voices of American and universal literature itself. Between perfectionism and the preoccupation with being liked, Plath's letters also show the self-awareness of a vulnerability that gradually becomes a strong, resolute, fundamental poetic voice.
