Causa general
la repressió de l'Estat espanyol contra el moviment per la independència de Catalunya (2009-2021)
Panyella, Jordi (1966- )
According to Jordi Panyella's meticulous count, 2,562 people have been retaliated against by the Spanish state, with police and judicial investigations of all kinds, victims of administrative, economic and political persecution for their participation in the independence movement in Catalonia. If we add the 1,066 people beaten on October 1, 2017, they go up to 3,628. Behind the cold numbers is the portrait of a political movement as complex as daring and crowded, but also a kaleidoscope of personal stories, with names and surnames, that Jordi Panyella has reconstructed: stories of courage and determination, of firm convictions and old, too often stories where fear appears in the first person. Because when repression acts indiscriminately, organized in a "general cause" that fixes everything, it does so for the sole purpose of inoculating the poison of fear to demobilize the political opponent, to turn dissent into dust of silence.
