New York is slipping out of Cleo's grasp. Yes, she spends more than one night a week at different parties, but she doesn't know anyone. Her student visa is about to expire, and she doesn't even have money to buy tobacco. But she then she meets Frank. Twenty years her senior, Frank's life is filled with the success and excess that Cleo's life lacks. He offers her the chance to be happy, the freedom to paint and the opportunity to apply for a residence permit. She offers him a life filled with beauty and art, and hopefully a reason to drink less. They are everything the other needs right now. Cleo and Frank plunge headlong into a relationship that neither of them can keep up with; a relationship that transforms their lives and those of those around them. This chance encounter between two strangers leaving a New Year's Eve party ends up changing everything, for better or worse.
