Eugenio Martínez de Orujo, patriarch of the Martínez de Orujo family, "a copious family of the golden age of the large landowners who have fallen into disrepair", has just died. To dispute his inheritance, he leaves a wife and several nephews and great-nephews, children of the children of his sister Demetria, a true flag woman, that is, preconstitutional, like all good people. Among all of them is Antoñito, the narrator of this story, who is on the right because, being an only child and orphaned of parents, he has a hard time sharing. And who, from funeral to funeral, from party to party, from Paris to Madrid and from Madrid to London, will pursue two dreams: to be a successful writer and inherit the barony of Romañá.
