XXXIV Premi de Novel·la Ciutat d'Alzira
Llopis, Tomàs
Diplomacy, alliances and sweets were the strongest weapons with which the sugar manufacturer Joan Caro fought in the War of the Germanies: "A sweet does not embitter anyone; on the contrary, it can open doors" was his motto. Involved in the twinned movement, the figure of Caro caused mistrust: questioned by the twinned radicals because he wanted peace and rejected by the nobility because he defended the cause of the people, Caro's fatal contradiction was not that he became captain general of the Germania, nor rational teacher, but he trusted too much in his political skill.
