Levi, Primo

This volume gathers stories from Primo Levi: Natural Stories (1966), Defect of Form (1971), The Periodic System (1971), Lilit and other stories (1975), Last Christmas of War (2000) and Scattered Stories, published posthumously and unpublished in Spain until 2009. As stated by Marco Belpoliti in his introduction, Primo Levi does not fit into any pre-established category. For a long time, critics didn't even consider him a true storyteller. The reasons for this error are various. He was considered the quintessential witness and, in addition, his way of telling, his unusual novelle, contradicted traditional taxonomies: he is a hybrid, impure, spurious narrator, a true centaur of the story, half realistic narrator, half fantastic narrator. The most attentive critics immediately understood that between Primo Levi's stories, the most strictly science fiction, between his "jokes" and the pages dedicated to the Lager there was a close relationship. Levi himself knew that. Already in the first interviews he warns: "No, they are not science fiction stories, if by science fiction is meant futurism, cheap futuristic fantasy. These stories are more possible than many others."
