In this guide we will analyze in detail the institution of joint guardianship and custody since, currently, and in accordance with the jurisprudence established by the Supreme Court, this institution stands as that normal and even desirable legal guardianship system. Throughout this work, and hand in hand with the study prepared by the General Council of the Judiciary, which establishes and stipulates those criteria that must be taken into account in judicial proceedings in matters of joint custody, we carry out a detailed analysis of the fundamental principle that governs in this matter -the interest of the minor-, the legislative evolution, as well as an exhaustive study of the criteria and pronouncements maintained by our courts in this matter throughout the last years. Likewise, we analyze the position that they maintain in relation to the right of visitation and communication of grandparents with their grandchildren and the most relevant pronouncements regarding joint custody and custody in situations of violence. All this accompanied by the practical information and forms necessary for the effective exercise of the rights and interests of minors in this matter.
