Marcus Aurelius rules in a golden age and the Pinarius, the ancestral family of artisans, beautify the world's greatest city with gold-plated statues and impressive marble monuments. But history never stands still. The years that are to come bring with them wars, plagues, fires and famines. The best emperors in history are succeeded by some of the worst. The barbarians advance relentlessly until they reach the gates of Rome. Chaos engulfs the Empire.On the periphery, a troublesome cult begins to spread dangerous and seditious ideas. They call themselves Christians. Power sometimes tolerates them and other times persecutes them in a bloody way.
