Economía del separatismo catalán

un análisis riguroso de las consecuencias económicas del Procés y la decadencia de Catalunya

Brunet, Ferran

In autumn 2017, the independence referendum and the proclamation of the Catalan republic put the Constitution in check. But its consequences extended far beyond the judicial sphere. This sad and enlightening book reviews the catastrophic effects that the nationalist unreason has had for Catalonia. Its author, a professor of applied economics, breaks down the economic damage inflicted by separatism, analyzing the flight of companies, deposits and banks, the instability of investments, the reduction of trade with the rest of Spain, political corruption, the decrease of tourism and employment or the bankruptcy and rescue of the Generalitat. But it is much more: in its pages, the reader will not only find an accurate x-ray of the decline of Catalonia, they will also find an exciting plea in favor of democracy, the rule of law and the value of institutions. And, above all, he will find an arsenal of arguments and data on the costs of the procés that debunk the myth of the paradise of independent Catalonia. A detailed and reasoned explanation of the effects that the procés has already had, but also of the consequences that secession would have for Catalonia, its political, logistical or economic risks, the impact on GDP, the fall in trade and the occupation or the difficult international position in which it would remain. Brunet lays bare, one by one, all the separatist lies and fantasies, and his conclusion is clear: secession would lead Catalonia to ruin and to being a failed state, a vassal of some foreign and totalitarian power.
