entre el compromiso identitario y la sociabilidad cultural
Gago González, José María
Publishers and booksellers are and have been an outstanding part, and in a certain way supportive, and even complementary, of a broad cultural framework that revolves around the book, and that is why I want, in this volume, to address its role and its importance together. Undoubtedly, in the sixties, seventies and eighties of the last 20th century, they were indispensable protagonists in the cultural recovery that began, at the beginning (the sixties) with great difficulty and then (the seventies and eighties) with fewer problems throughout Spain. and also in Mallorca. This is a work of a historical nature that is based on oral sources, to learn through a limited but significant number of testimonies belonging to direct protagonists of the fields of publishing and bookstore, the peculiarities and characteristics of the work of booksellers and publishers in the historical periods of Francoism and the Transition. Starting from these testimonies, but not limiting myself to them, I intend to show, and taking them as archetypes, what was the role and contributions of publishers and booksellers as a whole to the world, not only of the book, but also of the wider world. written culture, for a given period and a given territory; that is, the period from 1962 to 1989 in the island territory of Mallorca.
