People don't know what to make of Susan Green. Her family and her friends find her irritable and difficult to understand, but everything makes sense to her. At forty-five, she thinks her life is perfect. She has a flat in London ideal for one person, a steady job that suits her passion for logic, and a "friend" who provides her with cultural and other more intimate benefits. When she is suddenly faced with the loss of her mother and, unbelievably, with the prospect of becoming a mother herself, her greatest fear comes true: she is losing control of herself. And things can only get worse... or so it seems. And then enters the scene Rob, the always confused but well-intentioned friend of her lazy brother. As her due date approaches and her world falls apart, Susan finds an unexpected ally in Rob. She might have a chance to find love and learn to love herself... if she could just figure out how to relax and finally feel.
