The arrival of the Holub family to the Kunovic community disrupts the peace in the lives of the neighbors. After an altercation and the consequent expulsion of the newcomers, they find the village priest murdered. In the rapid process that takes place, her husband, a violent drunk, is sentenced to death, and the woman, who does not deny her participation in the crime, is sent to jail. But what to do with the couple's two children? The villagers wonder. The landowner in the area decides to take care of sweet little Milada, while nobody wants to know anything about Pavel, the eldest son. Supported only by the school teacher, the impetuous boy tries to earn a place in the community, but is condemned forever to be a victim of the prejudices of society, which continually rejects his efforts and forces him to struggle internally between the acceptance of your destiny and the desire to change it.
