El combate interminable

El combate interminable

Flores, Juan José

In 1980, the famous writer Jorge Luis Borges visited Barcelona. An adventurous urban legend who, during his brief stay, struck up friendly conversations with an occasional driver, Germán, a former boxer who told Borges the story of his favorite boxer, Josep Gironès, the so-called crack of Gracia, the undisputed idol of European boxing in the years 30 and the republican Barcelona. A story of success, tragedy and despicable slander that fascinated the writer. Borges had insisted on recording those conversations on a tape recorder to preserve the memory, but he ended up forgetting the tape in Barcelona when he left. Thirty years later, Germán will try to recover and decipher those talks from the old tape with the help of a very peculiar barber named Arístides. Certain forgotten words had been engraved on it, but of vital importance to the former boxer. He will need those words to undertake one last and unexpected fight, which may be the most decisive of his life.
