IX Premio de Novela Histórica Ciudad de Úbeda
Costoya Santos, Rodrigo
Galicia. Second half of the XV century. At the small monastery of Misarela, in the Ría de Arousa, a strange monk arrives with a dangerous cargo. They are books, codices that collect knowledge from time immemorial, from distant places, which now various powers seek to destroy. The arrival of this treasure causes an earthquake in the lives of those who surround the small hermitage. Monks, peasants, men and women, knights, rebels, nobles and inquisitors, kings and bishops intermingle in a fight to save or condemn the millenary knowledge that these codices keep, and they are involved in a bloody struggle that can change the course of the history of the world. Because news reaches Misarela that anticipate a change of era and that may mean the salvation of prohibited books: on the one hand, the invention of the revolutionary printing press, and on the other, the discovery of a new world beyond the ocean sea. The custodian of the Misarela library and his allies will have to risk everything to fulfill their destiny and save the books, and, above all, they will have to take care of their enemies, because wherever they burn books, they will end up burning people.
