El documental en España

In Spain, the consolidation in the past decades of a plural and heterogeneous documentary film scene has developed in parallel to the growing interest of academics and researchers in the cinema of reality. Despite the increase in publications in this field, the documentary bibliography still had a pending issue: to offer the interested reader a volume that included a historiographic update of these cinemas from their beginnings to the present. "The documentary in Spain. History, aesthetics and identity" constitutes a significant contribution, proposing a genealogy of documentary practices from a transversal perspective. The texts that make up this book are articulated around five large blocks based on historical-political, socio-cultural and aesthetic-formal and industrial criteria, among others. This publication has been conceived in turn favoring the diversity and cultural and identity richness of the Spanish State, present in the different chapters. The group of authors gathered in these pages also responds to this diverse character, not only geographically, but also in the heterogeneity of their profiles, which sometimes combine research with the making or programming of documentary films. "The documentary in Spain. History, aesthetics and identity" is presented to the restless reader as a versatile volume that compiles and expands knowledge on the subject and directs a polyhedral look at Spanish history and society from non-fiction cinema. This book is not intended to be a definitive contribution, but rather a humble but ambitious state of the art that will stimulate the emergence of many other complementary works in the future. In short, an open dialogue with whoever receives this volume in their hands with a curious attitude.
