(and others)
In the Nile Valley, at the end of a complex cultural process, one of the oldest territorial States in the world arose, led by a sacred royalty and an Administration that developed and evolved over the almost 3,000 years that separate the i dynasty of the Roman conquest. Quite contrary to the image of an Egypt full of pyramids, immobile and led by an all-powerful despot, based on the analysis of written and iconographic documentation, as well as archaeological discoveries, the most recent studies lead to presenting a much fuller image of nuances In this work, the authors present us with an Egyptian kingdom in constant evolution, from the essential role played by the local scale to the power games of the great families of the court, from the economy of the orchards to international exchanges, from the exploitation from the deserts surrounding Egypt to long-distance expeditions to Sinai, Punt, Sudan or the Middle East. Beyond the mere summary of the chronological plot, essential to understand its history, this work addresses the problems of each of the great periods of Pharaonic Egypt, dealing with history, but also with Egyptian society and culture, as well as presenting the reader the historiographical debates currently occupying Egyptologists.
