El estado de la unión

El estado de la unión

un matrimonio en diez partes

Hornby, Nick

Every week, Tom and Louise go on a date in a London pub before their couples therapy session. Their relationship seemed to be going well until a slip up caused cracks and tensions surfaced. Now they are trying to redirect the situation, in an attempt to save a marriage of fifteen years that has given them two children. The novel, organized into ten chapters, reproduces the ten minutes prior to ten therapy sessions. During that time Tom and Louise talk and observe what is happening around them: the people who enter the pub, the couples who leave their session with the therapist before they pass... The engine of the narration is those same conversations, loaded with sharpness, irony and sincerity. A kind of therapy prior to therapy, in which the main couple reviews their life together and talks about everything: the past, their differences and complicities, sex and love, expectations and disappointments, even Brexit.
