El hombre que ordenaba bibliotecas

Marqués, Juan

This book is not about books. It is about someone who, about to turn forty, suffers, for the first time in his life, a monumental identity crisis that also involves a crippling vocational crisis. Even his relationship with books, which had always been so necessary for him, becomes ambiguous and even bitter. During those strange months, the protagonist of this novel only gets unexpected consolation in the encounters that, first through work and later by chance, he has with an enigmatic man with whom he establishes a curious and asymmetrical intellectual relationship, and which awakens in the character the desire to dedicate himself to ordering or completing other people's libraries, an occupation in which, in turn, he will be related to the most outlandish beings, a true catalog of psychiatric disorders produced mainly by the literature itself, and even by that same book that we are reading, which in turn leads to a deliberately erratic brooding, in search of essential issues.
