The police find Charlie with one of the terrorists and accuse him of being a member of the ALA. Since he is a human, there is a legal vacuum and he lacks rights, he is considered for legal purposes as a "thing", so Lucy and her parents must find a way to get him out of prison without violating the law. Meanwhile, another member of the ALA goes to Gale, one of the students of the institute sympathetic to the terrorists, and proposes to join them as long as he is willing to sacrifice himself for the cause. Red Pill, Gale's pseudonym in the networks, shows up at the institute with a mask and an assault rifle and starts a shootout, murdering several students in cold blood until Charlie, after leaving the dungeons thanks to Lucy, goes to the bailing out.
