El pequeño Dombey y otras adaptaciones de novelas para leer en público
Dickens, Charles
In 1846 Charles Dickens already had the idea to make some adaptations of his novels to read them in public. It took him more than ten years to decide, but the separation of his wife Catherine and his new (scandalous) relationship with actress Ellen Ternan, which brought great changes in his life and economy, prompted him to get down to work. Dickens took from his novels the chapters that were most moving to him, sometimes he summarized them, removed what he thought was superfluous, eliminated characters and, instead, expanded others. He did so with Dombey and Son, Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit, David Copperfield and Oliver Twist, the four adaptations brought together in this volume.
