Montana, 1924. Phil and George Burbank are brothers and partners, owners of the largest ranch in the valley. They ride cattle together, and still sleep in the room they had as children. Phil is tall and brash, George stocky and unflappable. Phil is a genius and could have been anything he set his mind to, George is quiet and has no hobbies. Phil likes to provoke and George lacks a sense of humor, but he craves love. When George marries Rose, a young widow with a proud bearing and easy smile, and brings her to live on the ranch with her teenage son, Phil begins a relentless campaign to destroy her. But the weakest are not always who one thinks.
