El puente de Go-Cong
LII Premio de Narrativa Ciudad de Alcalá de Henares
González Romero, Emilio
1966. Rodrigo Uría, a young health brigade, is recruited for a secret mission. The military medical unit of which he is a part will end up attending a hospital in Go Cong, a small city in the Mekong Delta, the hottest area of ??the Vietnam War. The Spanish will develop an extraordinary health work with a local population that ends up trusting foreigners who do not speak French or English and only come to help them. Uría becomes interested in Dang, a Vietnamese woman older than him, unconventional and very independent, with whom he will live an atypical and torrid love story between rice fields, convalescent soldiers, civilians mutilated by mines and the smell of carbolic oil and antiseptics. The outings to the clinics in the region, the permits in Hong Kong or Tokyo and the relationship with Americans, Vietcong or South Vietnamese make up a M.A.S.H. Spanish in which humor allows trauma to be transcended, and where tragedy and cruelty are mixed with comedy.
