Els altres catalans
Candel, Francisco
Since its publication in March 1964, Els altres catalans, Francesc Candel's most popular work, has not been read as the author had written it. The sieve of censorship forced the suppression and modification of numerous passages. A direct witness to the people, environments and problems of suburban Catalonia, Candel's essay dealt crudely and bravely with the issue of immigration, a complex and recurring issue that still has a strong social impact today. This edition presents the full original text, restoring the fragments that censorship forced to cut, in a careful edition by Jordi Amat. Also included is an unpublished prologue by writer Najat El Hachmi, herself from an immigrant family, which brings today's classic text by Candel closer to readers.
