En defensa del pluralismo liberal
contra las religiones posmodernas
Bernaldo de Quirós, Lorenzo
Open society and its two main institutional expressions, liberal democracy and capitalism, are in danger. As happened in the thirties of the 20th century, the identity left and the paleoconservative right undermine its foundations from the inside, and authoritarian regimes threaten it from the outside. In the face of this offensive, individual liberties are seriously jeopardized by the dictatorship of political correctness imposed by the post-social-democratic left and the national-popular reaction of the illiberal right. The postmodern secular religions from environmentalism to radical feminism seek to impose from the State a compulsory public morality within which the pluralism of values ??disappears. The illiberal right pretends to do the same, but imposing its own conception of the good life. Both want to take away from the individual the ability to pursue their own ends, to live as they wish according to their ideals, beliefs and preferences; both exude a collectivist aroma in which people lose the basic signs of their individuality. Man is not defined by what he is and what he aspires to, but by his belonging to a group that directs and controls his existence. Bernaldo de Quirós exposes which are the philosophical foundations on which an open society is based; it describes the assault against them carried out from the identity left and the illiberal right. It shows the irrationality of their approaches, their neototalitarian and authoritarian character, to end by reminding us that pluralism of values ??is an essential condition for configuring a social order in which it is possible to achieve a peaceful and constructive coexistence.
