"Being born in the same year, under the same zodiac sign, living in the same neighborhood and studying in the same school, frequenting the same park, the same squares, the same shops does not have to imply a close friendship. If anything, a friendship circumscribed to space and time, inescapable, like some kind of genetic defect. But not a true friendship. Yesica Lugano and I were never really friends, we never got close or made confidences. Not even in the years of kindergarten and school that we shared -until her father decided to enroll her in a prestigious Italian school-, and no matter how hard our mothers put in; or perhaps, in good part, because of it. Because everything I knew about Yesi -and then I believed that I knew practically everything- I knew it from my mother". Who explains all this is Desi, to whom so many things are united with Yesi and yet so many others separate her from her. Both are girls from the Sant Antoni neighborhood of Barcelona, a popular area touched by the crisis, whose day to day the novel portrays. But, little by little, that everyday world of neighbors and acquaintances is showing its nooks and crannies and shadows. Yesi has disappeared, and Desi also has her secrets... Commission tells the story of a contradictory relationship of attraction and rejection that ends up leading to a terrible act: perhaps revenge, perhaps mercy. And he does so through a narrative that begins as a writing workshop exercise: that of a narrator who writes under the influence of some medication, which drags him into surprising and disturbing situations...
