Ensayo sobre las palabras
sobre la creación y el sentido del nombre de las cosas
Gordillo, Fátima
How and why do language and thought arise in the human being? This is, perhaps, one of the most interesting questions raised by anthropology, biology, theology or philosophy. Using a rigorous and eclectic approach, this book deals not only with some of the latest publications on the development of language, but also with the symbolism of words, their etymology, their relationship with imagination, memory and, ultimately, with the conception that the human being makes of his world and of himself. In its first part, it reviews the different scientific studies on the relationship between thought and language, as well as some of the archaeological finds that show the relationship between symbolic thought and the humanization process thanks to the imaginative function and the ability to develop concepts. In the second part, the symbolic part of words is addressed, essential for the development of abstract thought and the amplitude of the sense of transcendence in the human being. Finally, the third part breaks down, through etymology and symbolism, the original origin of some words, as well as the complexity of the concepts they contain.
