historia de todos nosotros desde el Neolítico hasta el Coronavirus

Pontón, Gonzalo (1944- )

All history is a genealogy of the present. When it presents us with disturbing scenarios and human societies show obvious signs of bankruptcy and hopelessness, we need to understand what is happening and we look in the past for the internal key of the social projects that have reached our days and the explanation of why others -such better times- failed to prosper. Beyond its ravages, the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed the degree of categorical inequality in which the complex Spanish society of the first quarter of the 21st century lives and has exposed, almost obscenely, uncomfortable shame: our health care itself, whose structural weakness It has surprised us all; the breakdown of our welfare state, emasculated by cuts and austerity since the Great Recession of 2007; the harrowing epiphany that without tourism our ability to generate wealth is very modest; that to move forward we need economic aid from Europe; that we do not know how to build a future for our unemployed youth; that we do not find hope in our politicians, but rather incompetence or worse; that perhaps we are still an old inefficient country... We need data to feed alternative responses to the comforting or fallacious ones that are offered to us. We need to knock on the door of history
