Florencio Delgado Gurriarán
polos vieiros da saudade
Cajaraville, Héctor
Florencio Delgado Gurriarán (1903-1987) stood out as a poet, and continues to be the most representative author of his native Valdeorras. But he was also an article writer, literary critic, editorial coordinator, lexicographer, translator, proofreader ... And like many other Galician intellectuals, after the 1936 coup he had to go into exile. In his case, the place chosen was Mexico, where he carried out intense cultural work. Some of the projects he led took the form of periodicals, such as the magazines "Saudade" and "Vieiros". At a time when Galician culture was developing more vigorously outside than within its natural borders, people like Delgado Gurriarán played a key role in its survival.
