Flores rojas

Tsuge, Yoshiharu

Red Flowers collects fourteen stories by Yoshiharu Tsuge published in GARO magazine between 1966 and 1968. They are stories inspired by his travels, impregnated with magical realism and inhabited by iconic characters of Japanese culture, such as the protagonist of Ben's igloo, or Sayoko , the "girl with the red flowers". Animals loaded with strong symbolic content also appear, as in Salamandra, where the amphibian becomes a metaphor for the author's subconscious. Also parading are irascible old men, fugitives with psychiatric problems and mysterious dogs. Tsuge explores the complex relationships and heartaches of a world of abject poverty. With a voice always disenchanted, he creates a new way of telling stories and understanding graphic fiction in which he combines introspection, poetry and mystery, elements that make him a unique author.
