The hornbeam has a hard, rot-resistant wood that is used as a tool handle and to make carts and field tools. It is a humble, reliable wood. Grandma María Enriqueta Carrasca was one of the first to emigrate from Ossa de Montiel to Pouet. If my father had not decided to leave the village, my life would have been different. My mother didn't want to go. After that I didn't want to go back. She was always from where we, her daughters, had built our future.
