Since he was a child, Ignacio Aldecoa never stopped dreaming of the sea. For him it represented freedom, and this, in his own words, was "having a place in the sun", because freedom is the natural state of the writer. On the high seas, natural forces oppose men with extreme crudeness. That reality is portrayed in this already classic novel of our literature, sometimes sad and always authentic, in which the misery of a hard and dangerous job is dignified.
