Granito
XXXI Premio Torrente Ballester de Narrativa
Alonso, Álex (1968- )
Based on the famous Nigrán crime that took place in January 1994, this novel by Álex Alonso, awarded the Torrente Ballester Prize, expertly reconstructs the events during which two policemen murdered four people from the family of a well-known granite businessman in his villa after an attempt. of extortion. Faced with the concept of a non-fiction novel, so closely linked to the writer Truman Capote in "A sangue frío", Álex Alonso opts here for fiction, yes, made from a huge amount of journalistic documentation. "Granito" tells the leap into the void of two beings who were already carrying the marked failure on their backs, in a completely improvised action, with no prior reflection or preparation: the almost suicidal action of two cops who had nothing to lose. At the same time, the novel becomes a sentimental chronicle, almost documentary, of the nineties in Galicia. In "Granito" Álex Alonso breaks with a convention never questioned in Galician fiction by reproducing our sociolinguistic reality in the characters' own dialogue. A fast-paced, intense and revealing novel.
