Guerra Civil
los episodios más oscuros

"Today, the red army captive and disarmed, the national troops have achieved their last military objectives. The war is over." Three years of war ended with this side of General Franco, which began with the military coup against the constitutional Republic. The Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) was the bloodiest conflict in Europe since the end of the First World War in 1918. Thousands of victims, including dead, wounded and missing; diseases, exiles, destruction of infrastructure, agriculture and livestock; All these factors illustrated the balance of a confrontation that marked the contemporary history of our country. The Civil War laid the foundations for a conflict that transcended the country's borders and involved other countries, and is considered by many to be the prologue to World War II; the beginning of the confrontation between the forces of democracy and fascism, which, since the mid-1930s, was increasing in Europe. This work brings together articles by different specialists on the period that illustrate multiple key aspects for understanding such a complex event. The reader will be able to learn more about some of the protagonists of the contest such as Sánchez Mazas, Alexander Orlov or the photographer Gerda Taro, delve into some aspects such as the myth of the Fifth Column, the requetés and the fall of Madrid or explore the darker episodes of the war such as the massacre of Badajoz, the bombing of Almería or the chekas of Barcelona.
