Hervaciana
Hidalgo Bayal, Gonzalo
This is apparently a book of evocations about the author's classmates and teachers at the Real Colegio de San Hervacio, a boarding school in Extremadura during the Franco regime. Arising from the involuntary memory that certain names or objects activate, prompted by unexpected reunions years later, their stories recreate scenes from a feverish and frightened age, in a collective universe of desks, recesses and a common bedroom. And they speak to us of a time of formation and discovery of the world, but also of the shrunken and ashamed life of the most humble, of the impudence of the fortunate, of stubborn resistance or quiet submission, of the morning joys and crying. of the night, of returns and goodbyes. With the desire to rediscover and understand what happened, each story follows the thread until a true ending. And most importantly, with the most dazzling prose, each story tells us about the forging of character, how, with its fortune or its conviction, it conditions our later life.
