Hotel Tito
Bodrozic, Ivana
Summer of 1991. The Croatian War of Independence has begun and the protagonist, a nine-year-old girl who lives in Vukovar with her parents and her brother, is sent to a holiday camp by the sea to keep her away from hostilities. After her return, everything will have changed. Her father, who was fighting with the Croatian forces, will have disappeared and she, along with her mother and her brother, will be part of the flood of refugees condemned to live a few meters away in a context of genocide and persecution. The exile and the harsh living conditions and the process of self-knowledge will transform the girl's gaze, and we will witness her transformation into the lucid and brilliant adolescent who looks at the world strangely.
