On November 4, 1926, the French gendarmerie had aborted a project to invade the Principality from Prats de Molló, in the Vallespir region. A few hundred Catalan pro-independence activists took part, as well as a large group of Italian anti-fascists, who had uncertain support in the interior of Catalonia, among whom were prominent CNT militants.
