La Bodega
última ronda en un bar de barrio
V Premio de Periodismo Literario (UAB)
Peña Novo, Miguel
At the end of 2021, the news of Rafel Jordana's retirement, after 35 years in charge of his winery in the Sant Antoni neighborhood, spread like wildfire among parishioners and customers. With him, a singular way of understanding business and life disappeared. Miguel Peña Novo went from being a regular customer to a chronicler of the last moments of the place, rescuing the history of La Bodega d'en Rafel as an example of so many others that, serving wine from Terra Alta, emerged in post-war Barcelona. Between barrechas, grilled cuttlefish, tripe and other specialties, the reader will relive the particular microcosm created between the staff, the customers and the neighborhood. Happily, in the hands of other owners, La Bodega d'en Rafel is still open. This emotional and captivating portrait of the throbbing life of an authentic bar, "of those that no longer remain", remains for the history of the city.
