La caja de los miedos
Premio de Narrativa Marta de Mont Marçal, 2022
García Roces, Arantxa
Little Aleksei, orphaned in the Siberian steppe, embarks on a journey to Moscow with the priest Vasiliy Lebedev and, from there, to Paris at the end of the 19th century. In the City of Light he will enjoy a new life with his aunt Vania and the rest of his peculiar family. Mata Hari triumphs in the Berlin cabarets when the Germans contact her: they want her to spy on the French before the war breaks out. Margot, the woman who hides behind her diva, begins a journey that will take her from Germany to her adored Madrid, to the eternal Paris of the Moulin Rouge and to the foggy London immersed in the Great War. Her pilgrimage will reveal to him that she is only a pawn in the hands of the powerful who choose the rules of the game. The Pomone, a French-flagged freighter, is torpedoed off the Cantabrian coast by a German submarine. Alexandre and the rest of the survivors are rescued by the inhabitants of the fishing village of Tazones. Thanks to them, Alex manages to travel to Gijón, where he will look for the person who hides the documents that the mythical Mata Hari left in the city.
