La Cruz de Mayo en Granada
Montijano Ruiz, Juan José
Among the different celebrations that take place around the cross, May 3 stands out in the festive calendar of Granada. This date marks one of the most important events of the year in the city, which not only marks the arrival of spring, but also the proclamation that begins the biggest festivities in the city, culminating in the celebration of Corpus Christi. The Day of the Cross in Granada is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated days of the year. The city is filled with joy, beauty, love and spring (despite the fact that sometimes the weather is not good). The citizens dress in their typical regional costumes and decorate themselves with carnations from Motril, to extol the gastronomy and crafts typical of the region. The ephemeral altars that adorn the city during these celebrations are an example of the uniqueness of Granada and its rich history and culture.
