Why and why do we read? It will be said that to become wiser, free or better people. But is this really so? Is there a loophole that allows us to claim reading as a singular characteristic of the human race, as a tool for mutual understanding and an instrument to sharpen our language and our critical consciousness? Some think not. This work searches among the rubble for arguments for yes, specifically among the ruins of the Buchenwald concentration camp, where there was a library.
