La guerra del fin del mundo
Vargas Llosa, Mario
At the end of the 19th century, in the impoverished lands of northeastern Brazil, the spark of the Counselor's harangues, a messianic and enigmatic character, sparked the insurrection of the disinherited. In extreme circumstances like those, the achievement of vital dignity can only come from religious exaltation and the radical breaking of the rules that govern the world of the powerful. Thus, groups of miserable people come to the call of the revolution in Canudos, the city where a community of characters settles who will hardly disappear from the reader's imagination. Faced with all of them, a political-military plot is being articulated to stop with all its force the movement that threatens to expand.
