Rika Machida is the only woman on the editorial staff of the weekly magazine where she works. Perhaps that is why she is the only one who manages to contact Manako Kaiji, a woman on death row accused of seducing, robbing and killing her three husbands with the intention of using her money to pay for cooking classes and fancy meals. Thus begins a series of encounters between the two women that soon transform Rika's initial interest, merely professional, into a strange fascination with the alleged murderer. Kaji doesn't quite fit what anyone might expect of a "man seductress," but her overwhelming personality and her determination to satisfy her desires is more intriguing to Rika than any other topic she's ever dealt with. As he digs deeper into her, Kaji's magnetic personality breaks through the prison walls and begins to influence the journalist's decisions and behaviors.
