La inocencia del cruasán
el asesinato del Cardenal Soldevila (1923)
Ciria, Pedro
At the beginning of the 20th century, a provincial city brought together a series of decisive events for the future of the country: a terrorist attack, the doubts of a king, the decisive hours of a coup d'état or the visit of Albert Einstein , a star more famous than Greta Garbo. Dragged to the epicenter of that maelstrom, the charismatic José María Gayarre, president of the Iberia Sport Club, will know the troubles of forbidden love and will experience power struggles, excessive egos and the miseries of the human condition. The overwhelming passion, the fear of death, the unshakable loyalty of friendship or the most perfidious selfishness populated the society of 1923 with the same density as in the present. The puzzle made up of the different points of view of the protagonists presents the reader with a photograph that blurs the old outlines of good and bad. It is the story of an uncertain and cruel time, but at the same time exciting and precious, that cracks the innocent life script of a young man full of contradictions, dreams, hopes and disappointments. This novel brings the reader closer to the secrets of a little-known era. The innocence of the croissant plunges into a not so remote time in which the love and betrayal of two men will have to fight, as they have always done, between reason and heart. Meanwhile, Alfonso XIII, Buenaventura Durruti, Cardinal Soldevila and other real and fictional protagonists will be direct witnesses of this immortal struggle.
